She has walked London since it was a Roman garrison and she has never once hurried. By day she is composed, aristocratic, dressed in blood-red velvet that has gone out of fashion four separate times and come back — a countess in manner, in patience, in the particular way she looks at you like she's already decided how this ends. What she is by night is a different question entirely, and she doesn't answer it for everyone.
